Celebrate Digital Citizenship Week with Cyber Civics

Cyber Civics Digital Citizen

Every third week of October, schools everywhere celebrate Digital Citizenship Week. How will your school be celebrating?

Why Digital Citizenship Matters

Knowing how to be a good citizen offline is fairly easy in a world governed by rules, laws, and norms that have been established over time. But that’s not the case online. Many online communities lack rules, laws, or norms, and if there are any, they are sometimes hard to figure out (or buried in “terms of use”).

That's why we've devoted an entire level of Cyber Civics to Digital Citizenship. It is foundational to digital literacy. We invite you to celebrate this important week with us by sharing a lesson a day with your students! If you like what you see, let us know and we will gladly show you the entire curriculum.

Enjoy and Happy Digital Citizenship Week.

Day 1: What is Digital Citizenship?

Teach your students what digital citizenship is by sharing this video. If you want to learn more visit our Digital Citizenship Hub.

Day 2: The Five Principles of Citizenship

Cyber Civics helps students understand digital citizenship by teaching them the five principles of citizenship. These principles help them know how to be good citizens online, and off. Share this video with your students so they'll know what the five principles are, and schedule a demo with us if you'd like to get the lesson plan too!

Day 3: Respect the Personal Information of Others

A good digital citizen always respects the personal information of others before they post anything online. This is an important lesson in our Digital On-Ramps series of lessons for late elementary schoolLike the video? Contact us to get the lesson plan too!

Day 4: Be an Upstander

A digital citizen should know how to put a stop to cyberbullying and digital drama by being an upstander. This is an important lesson from Cyber Civics series of lessons on cyberbullying. Let us know if you want to see the series!

Day 5: Practice Kindness Online

A digital citizen is always kind online. Join us on a journey to create a more compassionate world—online and off—by checking out Cyber Civics, our comprehensive digital literacy curriculum from grades 4-8.

Enjoy your week!!
